“To the Government and the People of Maryland:
The Trump Administration continues to dedicate every day of its power to overturning the rights of workers and marginalized people and dismantling critical government systems. We are compelled to address the existing inequality and inadequacy of our system and to defend the rights we do have.
The People of Maryland must ensure that all Marylanders can safely access the resources they need to thrive. Our elected officials are obligated to defend us from harmful federal policy, and we must remind them of that obligation.
Sanctuary Maryland is a campaign by the Greater Baltimore Democratic Socialists of America and allies to advance the fundamental rights of Marylanders: especially those of migrants, Muslims, trans people, activists, workers, women, people with disabilities, and other groups targeted for violence and repression by the Trump administration and Republican trifecta control of the United States federal government.
We pledge to fight to uphold those rights and to demand that the Maryland government do the same.
We demand that the Governor and General Assembly affirm the rights of all Marylanders, including disabled persons, all racial and religious minorities, and all LGBTQIA+ persons, to nondiscrimination in hiring, promotion, housing, and medical care, including their rights to public assembly, to public speech, and to unionize and withhold labor.
Particularly:
- Defend our migrant neighbors from ICE
- Defend our residents from federal persecution
- Defend our hospitals, universities and other public welfare institutions from financial ruin by providing alternatives to insecure federal funding
- Defend our women and transgender people by guaranteeing access to reproductive and gender affirming healthcare”
